My Robert

Well we're in the midst of LOVE WEEK. Valentine's Day was a few days ago and our anniversary is only 2 days away. Time to post something I've been working on for a while. It's somewhat cheesy, so what better time to post it than during Love Week?!? ;)

50 Things You May or May Not Know About Robert That Make Me Love Him All the More
  1. Several of his teeth have been chipped multiple times through wrestling in high school and other accidents. This makes his S's whistle occasionally.
  2. He sticks his tongue out when he's concentrating. Especially while playing a difficult portion of music on the piano or when he is trying to figure something out in his statistics research.
  3. He NEVER finishes a container of anything. Milk, shampoo, sunblock, you name it. He'll open a new one instead of finishing off an open one. I don't know if it's because he doesn't want to have to take the time to throw the container away, or if he feels bad being the last one to use it. All I know is there's been more than once that I've made a whole meal out of the last bite he left of 10 different leftovers.
  4. He LOVES Billy Joel. Almost to the point of obsession.
  5. The thought of his kids wanting but not having friends at any point in the future makes him cry EVERY.TIME.
  6. He has an irrational fear of bees. Several pant seams have perished because of this.
  7. At 15 years old, I was his first crush ever.
  8. It never occurs to him to comb his hair unless I (or his brother or parents) tell him to. He's shown up to teach seminary many times without his hair combed because of this.
  9. His dream church calling is Primary Pianist. Icing on the cake would be to be the pianist at the same time that I'm chorister.
  10. In high school, if you were to ask who his best friend was, first he would say his brother Terrel. Second he would say his piano teacher, Brother Coffin
  11. He LOVES the Die Hard movies. They drive me CRAZY! He used to watch them all of the time, since they are on some cable channel ALL of the time, but now that he knows they drive me crazy he only watches them when I'm not in the room.
  12. His senior year of high school, he tested #1 in his division at Nationals in the Academic Decathlon. So basically he is the smartest kid in the country ;)
  13. SPAM is one of his favorite foods.
  14. He HATES to have his knuckles popped.
  15. He is really good, like you would do a double-take good, at softball, baseball, ultimate Frisbee, and racquetball.
  16. Junior year of high school, he got appendicitis, had an appendectomy, and 3 days later performed one of the lead rolls in the high school musical. Staples still in his side and all.
  17. He'll pass gas in front of me, and he'll pass gas in front of his mom, but not when we're in the same room because he doesn't want his mom to know that he passes gas in front of his wife.
  18. He has a lead foot. Meaning he has been pulled over 10 times, give or take, for speeding since we've been married. Resulting in some very hefty speeding tickets I might add.
  19. He is grumpiest, well for the most part ONLY grumpy, while driving in heavy traffic. The only full out fights we've had in our marriage have been while Robert was driving in heavy traffic.
  20. His whole body twitches when he's asleep. This has resulted in me getting punched in the face on several occasions.
  21. He also has a nervous twitch in his cheek that makes his mouth go to the side. You see it most when he is singing a serious song or giving a talk in front of a big group of people.
  22. When something strikes him as really hilarious, he can't help but make a spectacle of himself. Like he literally will roll on the floor laughing or at the very least bury his face in his hands or in my back for several minutes until he can finally regain composure, only to collapse again in a minute when he thinks about it again.
  23. Most people know that he plays the piano and sings, but he is also very talented at the harmonica, trumpet, and french horn.
  24. He wears BYU shirts whenever we're on a road trip to encourage missionary moments.
  25. To his knowledge, the first time he had ever drunk caffeine was when we went on a cruise in 2012. Mr. Pibb, and it was hilarious!
  26. He can fall asleep anywhere, at any time.
  27. He couldn't snap with his fingers until he was 16. I remember the day. Why? Because he was so excited that he worked up the nerve to call me and say he had something to show me. This, I believe, was the only time he called me in the year and a half that we liked each other in high school.
  28. His favorite Disney movies are Up and Meet the Robinsons.
  29. He has a real knack for being able to carry on a great conversation with anyone from all walks of life.
  30. When we have friends over to play games, if Robert wins all of them he'll feel awful about it and say so numerous times over the next week or 2.
  31. He is the leftover KING. Nothing (except for the last bite of each dish - see #3) lasts in our fridge for more than a day. Maybe 2 days.
  32.  He can sightread piano music better than I can play it after several weeks of practice.
  33. He breaks into singing random songs ALMOST as much as I do.
  34. He didn't get a Facebook account until after his mission when Terrel got sick of Robert using his account to look at my Facebook page.
  35. His most emotional moments are when he talks or thinks about times that I've been in pain.
  36. He loves country music, but hates songs that talk about drinking beer being fun...which is at least half of country music songs ;)
  37. He once ran a mile in 5 minutes and 47 seconds.
  38. He couldn't pronounce his Rs until 4th or 5th grade, which is really sad when your name is Robert Richardson AKA Wahboat Wichohdson.
  39.  He eats honey graham crackers by the box.
  40. He has only ever said one swear word and it was only one time. 3rd grade - playing soccer at recess - a kid yelled at someone behind Robert, "F*** you!" Shocked Robert said, "F*** me??" The kid said, "No him!" Robert then realized what he had said, felt so bad about it that he walked home right then crying.
  41. There is an entry in Robert's journal from before his mission but after the time that he liked me that says, "The last time I wrote in this I was thoroughly infatuated with Heidi Wilcken. That was a fluke."
  42. He makes a delicious Samoan sandwich (scrambled egg cooked into a soft boiled ramen brick between toasted bread with cheese and BBQ sauce)
  43. The night he told me he liked me after his mission, he drove in circles for 45 minutes, hemming and hawing before he could finally say it. Now imagine how our first kiss went.
  44. He's fallen asleep at the wheel several times. This once resulted in Robert totaling his brother's car. This is why we never do our road trips through the night.
  45. His favorite cereal is Malt-O-Meal "Marshmallow Mateys." In his words, "TONS better than Lucky Charms!"
  46. He loves all things Marvel Universe. The comics, movies, even the cheesy co-op games you can play online.
  47. You can tell how stressed out he is with his current workload by how many canker sores in his mouth he is complaining about.
  48. He served his 2 year mission in the New Hampshire Manchester Mission, but spent most the time "mainly in Maine." He hopes to go back someday to show me "what beautiful fall leaves really look like."
  49. He has had his name legally changed. His parents named him Robert Allen Richardson after one of his dad's best friends. His parents's later found out that the friend actually spelled his middle name Alan so they had it changed.
  50. I ask him for anything and he says yes. Doesn't matter how often I tell him that he should try to say no sometimes and it doesn't matter what it is - expensive items, him doing embarrassing skits, etc. - he ALWAYS says yes.
And that's my Robert. I kind of love him. A LOT!!

Grandpa Coy

Christmas 2013

Saturday, February 1st we got a text from Robert's mom saying that Grandpa Coy wasn't doing well. He ended up passing away that night. So we had an unexpected quick trip to Arizona for the funeral.

We lucked out in that while we were there the newly finished Gilbert Temple was open for it's open house. So we left James with Robert's mom and took our girls to the open house. It was such a sweet experience to watch our girls be so amazed at the beauty and spirit of the inside of a temple.

Without planning it, we ended up being there at the same time as some of Robert's aunts, uncles, and cousins.

That night was the viewing.

Robert and I could pick out who several of these older cousins
were because they look like their children :)

50 years of service!

The Funeral

Robert's mom (far right) and all her siblings

All the siblings with their mom, Grandma Myrlene

All the Johnston cousins! If I remember hearing right, there were only 2 or 3 that
weren't able to attend, though several are not in this picture.
It's hard to get that many together all at once!

You can't have that many cousins together and NOT do a funny picture. Am I right?

It was a beautiful funeral service. All who participated did a fabulous job. Grandpa Coy was not perfect, none of us are, but he was an AMAZING grandpa. It was an honor to know him the short time that I did. There were several things about him that reminded me of my Grandpa Wilcken who left this life nearly 13 years ago, which made Grandpa Coy that much more dear to me. We'll miss him but we're thankful for the knowledge that he is in a better place and we will be with him again.

Like Father, Like Son

The picture on the left of Robert as a baby is what inspired the baseball outfit photo shoot. I love my girls! Robert does too, but it is a new kind of fun having a boy! It's fun to watch Robert hold him and notice how they scowl the same way when they're focusing on something and other similarities. I already feel like James is growing up so fast and wish he would stay little for longer, but I also can't wait to see his little personality develop and see how much he is or isn't like Robert. Or maybe his personality will be more like his Mommy. Only time will tell! ;)

January in a Nutshell

Just some random odds and ends from January.

Lydia is a Sunbeam and so far she LOVES it! She especially likes Singing Time with Mommy, but is learning to not have a meltdown every Sunday that her name stick isn't picked.

Lydia and Mary are starting to love to play together more than fighting. Like 60% playing nice, 40% fighting and screaming at each other. Hopefully their relationship keeps going more and more in the direction of playing nice with each other.

I snuck this video of Robert dancing with the girls. They had already been going for a couple minutes so I missed the best moves, but I still think it's so sweet. The girls love their Daddy!

I went on my first run since the October before my brain surgery. It was WONDERFUL!

Oh how I missed running along this view!

Family beach trip with some friends.

Gotta love the Nutella smeared across her face

Lydia is obsessed with the music from Frozen. I have it on my phone and she listens to it constantly. Here she is performing "Let It Go." Excuse the mess.

James turned 2 months!

14lbs 13oz and 2'.5" long. His length is leveling out a bit (94th percentile)
as is his weight (92nd percentile), but his head circumference - 16.9" - is
inching further and further off the charts.

I had been dragging my feet about putting away the 0-3 month clothes, he had pretty much grown out of them by the time he was 1 month. Well, we ended up having to use scissors and cut James out of one of his shirts because, even with Robert and I working together, we could not for the life of us stretch it off his big head. Needless to say, his small clothes are put away and he's in 6 month now, but probably not for long.

Lydia loves to feed her brother. Such a big girl helper for Mommy and Daddy!

We did a little photo shoot with James in this baseball outfit because he was just so cute in it, I couldn't resist!

And of course another Beach Day with friends!! Is this not what people normally do in the middle of winter?

Lydia had all these random boys' attention and was playing with them for a
good 10 minutes or more. She's already attracting the older boys! What are
we going to do when she's older???

There was a Sunday that I ended up matching the girls almost exactly, so we took pictures. We tried many shots but they weren't really in the mood for it, so this is the best of what we got.

TICKLE ATTACK!! This picture cracks me up :)
